About Me

Viktoria-Astrom-Childrens-Book-Author-Illustrator

Despite my doodle-filled high school notebooks, extra art classes, and lack of a computer at home, I surprised everyone, including myself, when I chose to study a BA Computer Science at Lund University. After completing an MA in Design for Interactive Media in north London, I began my career as a programmer. As it turns out, I love solving problems.

I have a drawing from when I was 6 years old of a very wonky Donald Duck. Underneath it, I have written: "I will make an animated film." It took years before that dream came true. After working as a programmer and designer, I found myself in the basement at Central Saint Martins College in London, creating hand-drawn 2D animation. I loved every minute of it.

Cartoon Network hand-picked me for an internship, and I also worked for Nickelodeon before moving back to Sweden in 2005.

I continued as an animator for a few years before becoming an Art Director at HiQ, where I worked with clients such as Volvo, SCA, and Wellspect.

My first children's book, Glaskulorna (The Marbles), was published by Idus in spring 2023. Since then, I've been creating children's books, using my problem-solving skills in a different way.

As an artist, I do much of my work by hand. I paint watercolours, create large ink drawings, and make prints by carving rubber. I also paint and design digitally. I run a web shop on Etsy where I sell my work, and you can also find me and my creations at Spinneriet in Gothenburg.
